Personal Life

Living a fulfilling personal life is critical to one's happiness. Whenever one decides to enter a new community, even the most socially gifted individuals are challenged to put their personal and social life in order.

The concept of community is central to Real Life Israel.  The participants are themselves part of an important community that will work, play, travel, grow and celebrate together over the course of the program. As such we view developing and supporting the community of participants as a key element of the program.

Moreover, RLI participants will themselves be busy with establishing their wider social network that will certainly include other friends and family. We'll help by assisting those requesting an adoptive family to find one that is suitable and on a personal and/or professional level.

In addition, RLI will provide an "Israel Life Skills - Workshop Series" that will be held on a regular basis throughout the duration of the program and will cover issues that face every immigrant to Israel.  Topics planned include:

  • Israeli Bureaucracy and How to Survive It
    • Aliyah rights – what are they and how to benefit from them
    • Health care and universal health insurance in Israel
    • Dealing with the government and other large institutions
  • University and Higher Education
    • Rights for continuing your education in Israel
    • Visiting top Israeli universities and centers of academia
  • Finances in Israel
    • Banking in Israel – Opening an account, getting loans, mortgages and Internet banking
    • Financial planning and making ends meet
    • Credit and debit cards in Israel
  • Choosing Where to Live in Israel
    • Choosing the area in which you live: city, moshav, kibbutz or yishuv
    • Renting an apartment and average rents in various areas
    • Understanding city taxes (arnona) and how they affect your rental decisions
  • Personal networking & establishing "protectzia"
  • Keeping in Touch with Family and Friends in the Diaspora
  • Real Life Stories – Meetings with olim who live throughout the country and learning from them and their experiences
  • Hebrew for Home and Socializing
    • Hebrew used in the news and in current events
    • Out on the town – Reading menus and ordering like a sabra
    • Hanging out and slang – Hebrew for everyday usage among friends
